Mediware Acquisition Adds 320 Pharmacy Facilities

LENEXA, KS Nov. 21, 2008 - Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MEDW), a provider of ClosedLoop™ software for blood and medication management, announced today that it has acquired substantially all the assets of Hann’s On Software (HOS), a pharmacy management software provider based in Santa Rosa, Calif. Mediware’s purchase agreement includes a cash payment of approximately $3.5M, with an additional earn out opportunity based on operational performance.

Commenting on the acquisition, Kelly Mann, Mediware’s president and chief executive officer said: “HOS is a very well run business and this accretive transaction is a good example of how we can strategically use Mediware’s cash resources to expand our ability to deliver patient safety solutions. The addition of the HOS product suite enables us to sell to a larger market and complements our strategy to grow medication management in specialty segments such as small hospitals and behavioral health. I am particularly excited about the alternate-site infusion and specialty pharmacy tools that Mediware will be able to provide to our customers and the broader pharmacy market.”

HOS has been in business for more than 20 years and has more than 300 facilities using its Ascend products to manage pharmacy operations. Most of these customers are either community hospitals with less than 150 beds, outpatient clinics, or alternate-site infusion service providers.

Mediware has traditionally targeted its pharmacy management suite of products to large, sophisticated hospitals and behavioral health facilities that require complex clinical support. With HOS, the company now has products that satisfy the requirements of smaller acute care facilities, home infusion businesses, and specialty pharmacies at a price that is affordable to this segment of the market.

The addition of HOS and IMS, which was acquired in November 2007, expands Mediware’s total customer base to more than 1400 facilities worldwide. These include large academic, community acute care, behavioral health and specialty care hospitals, as well as blood and plasma centers, and centralized transfusion service providers.

Information regarding Daylight Saving Time

All of our software products obtain the date/time from either the local workstation or the server, depending upon the function of the code. This means that as long as the operating system’s date/time is correct, dates/times in our software will be correct. Our products DO NOT have a separate clock function outside the clock already built into Windows. Nor does our software perform any adjustments based on your time zone. The date/time we use, is either that of the local computer or server, again depending upon the function. We do recommend that you obtain the latest service packs for your Windows operating system to ensure your computers apply the latest DST rules. These service packs are available from Microsoft. These updates are part of the Microsoft Windows updates process and, if unsure, you should check with your local IT support to verify your computers are updated.

Date/times values that are stored in the database should require no updates and retain the same value after DST. For example, an order with a stop date of 4/1/2007 10:00 requires no update/change to the database since that is the correct time the order needs to stop. At this time, no software program updates from Hann’s On Software are needed to handle the changes to DST.

Hann's On Software (HOS) and Pyxis developed an interface
between the HOS inpatient pharmacy program, Ascend-IP, and Pyxis Visual Med to
provide advanced medical technology to help reduce medication errors and improve
patient safety. Ascend-IP and Pyxis Visual Med are now able to support better
clinical care and reduce health care costs.

Pyxis Visual Med is a modular Computerized Physician Order
Entry (CPOE) system that integrates physician and nursing clinical
decision-making with data maintained in the electronic patient record.

Ascend-IP receives legible prescriptions and dosage
calculations that are based on patient specific information from Pyxis Visual
Med. This will help to improve communication between physicians, nurses and
pharmacy, reduce medication errors and prevent adverse drug event (ADEs) at the
point of prescription. In addition, Pyxis Visual Med reviews all MD
prescriptions and can suggest alternate courses of therapy as needed.

As well as interfacing with Pyxis Visual Med, Ascend-IP can
interface with ADT, Financial, Laboratory, CPOE, Automated dispensing systems,

Automatic Charges and Credits for Ascend-IP Users

Ascend-IP users can now greatly reduce entry of
billing credits for medications. The new feature automatically reverses any
charges following an order's discontinuance, or a patient's discharge. All of
our ADT interfaces have also been updated with an option to automatically
reverse charges following interface mediated discharges, virtually eliminating
credits for scheduled medications when patients go home. One HOS client
estimates this new feature is saving them 1-2 hours of time per day!

A second feature allows Ascend-IP to automate the
generation of charges for scheduled medications. With this option turned "on",
users don't have to tell the program how many scheduled doses to charge
for...the program does it for them.

The HOS Charge interfaces can also be set to
automatically transmit or process charges the day after the doses were
administered. Pharmacy does not have to deal with complicated charge processing
procedures, or "end-of-day" down time. Charge processing/transmission can be
pre-scheduled to occur at the same time each day, automatically and
unattended!

Two new interfaces: HBOC and Cerner

Hann's On Software has implemented two new
interface interface for Ascend-IP, one with HBOC and another with Cerner's
laboratory system. These interfaces add to the impressive list of vendors that Hann's On Software can
interface with.

The HBOC interface is a "read-time" ADT interface
for maintaining patient demographics, and a fully automated billing interface.
The billing portion of the interface transmits pending charges to HBOC
automatically each day, without user intervention!

The HOS Cerner interface automatically populates
the Ascend-IP's "laboratory results" tables, with laboratory data created by
Cerner. This provides pharmacists with timely access to laboratory results
without their having to review the chart, or obtain paper reports from the
laboratory.

New Ascend-HI Home Infusion

Hann's On Software is releasing their most modern
home infusion program yet, the Ascend-HI
Home Infusion Software. The new program provides:

SQL Server database (ODBC). SQL Server and
Ascend-HI are scalable to meet the needs of small to very large home
infusion businesses. Other vendors keep promising, but we
can deliver a SQL version now!
Stability Ascend-HI and SQL provide a
level of safety you would expect to protect your valuable data. color=#ff0000>Don't put up with other vendor's bugs!
Long-term access to historical data.color=#000000> Ascend-HI and SQL provide most facilities with years of direct,
on-line storage. With other systems, you may be
forced to "archive" data on a regular basis, and reviewing their older patient
records may be impractical!
Multi-facility support. Now two or more
pharmacies (facilities, branch offices, etc.) can share one SQL database
over a wide area network. Each location's patients, prescriptions, inventory,
etc. are effectively separated from the others to maintain security and
ensure patient confidentiality

patient intake, order entry, distribution and claims processing, a

HCFA "allowed billing unit" support

Ascend-IP can now automatically expand a medication
charge into several smaller billable units. This need arose after HCFA required
facilities to bill targeted drugs in specific, smaller, "billing units of
measure".

For example, "DRUG-X" available in "50MG" vials
might have to be billed in units of "10MG". Therefore, a "100MG" dose must be
billed as 10 x "10MG" units. Until now, users had to edit the ingredient
"quantity per dose" field to charge for the allowed unit of measure.

With the latest upgrade, Ascend-IP lets you display
items in your formulary as they are commercially available (e.g., DRUG-X 50MG
INJ). You can pre-set the "billing units" that the program should charge per
dose (e.g., "5" billing units per "50MG" vial). At order time, you can edit the
quantity per dose (e.g., from 1 to 2), or edit the dosage (e.g., from 50 to
100MG), as needed, and the program automatically charges the proper allowable
billable units per dose (e.g., 10) .

This new feature eliminates the need to
artificially inflate order quantities for target "HCFA drugs", and seamlessly
handles charges for these items when they are received by our automated
dispensing system interfaces.

This new feature is currently available to AIP
outpatient clients, and will be available for inpatient users and charge
interface users early next year.
